Position: Term Law Clerk

This is a full-time 1-year1 term position with an anticipated start date in November/December 2025.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Utah is accepting applications for a Term Law Clerk to the future United States Bankruptcy Judge David H. Leigh. The anticipated start date is in November/December 2025.

The Term Law Clerk will conduct legal research and analysis on issues, develop recommendations for the Judge, review motions on the calendar, prepare memoranda and summaries, maintain notes during motion calendars and evidentiary hearings, draft orders, judgments, memoranda and opinions for the Judge’s review, and perform other duties as assigned.

This is a full-time position (80 hours per biweekly pay period) for 1 year. The position may be renewed for a second year at the Judge’s discretion dependent on exemplary work performance.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

To qualify for the position of Term Law Clerk, prior to the term start date the applicant must be a law school graduate (or be certified as having completed all law school studies and requirements and is merely awaiting conferment of degree).

Preference will be given to applicants who are highly skilled in legal research and writing and able to quickly process and recommend resolution to complex issues. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, maturity, judgment, and discretion are required.

The position may be renewed for a second year at the Judge’s discretion dependent on exemplary work performance.
