2020 Initiative on the Advancement and Retention of Women

In 2010, the Women Lawyers of Utah released The Utah Report: The Initiative on the Advancement and Retention of Women in Law Firms. Based on survey data collected by the WLU’s Initiative on the Advancement and Retention of Women Attorneys, The Utah Report confirmed that Utah law firms faced challenges retaining and advancing female attorneys and that a significant portion of women attorneys in firms (10%) experienced harassment and sex discrimination in the workplace.

To keep the important work of the Initiative on the Advancement and Retention of Women Attorneys moving forward, WLU rebooted the Initiative in 2020, which is the ten year anniversary of the first report. WLU contracted with sociologist Dr. Christy Glass of Utah State University to design the survey and analyze the results.
