Special Project Committee Joins Panel for Refugee Girls

Karina Sargsian, the Chair of the WLU’s Special Projects Committee was invited to participate in a job panel at the Utah Refugee Education and Training Center on April 8, 2016. The eight panelists were from different professions. Teenage refugee girls from Congo, Burundi and Somalia attended the panel. The panelists not only discussed their various professions but encouraged the girls to pursue a higher education. The program coordinator later informed the panelists that the children loved the experience and hoped to participate in another job panel. WLU’s special project for the next two years is to reach out to young girls and encourage them to consider pursuing a higher education. To accomplish this goal, the Special Project Committee has joined forces and is working with several organizations within our community.
