SUMMER LAW CLERK

Southern Utah University (SUU) is seeking an exceptional candidate for a summer law clerk, working with a great team in the SUU Office of Legal Affairs.

SUU is a public University located in Cedar City, Utah, in close proximity to endless outdoor opportunities. SUU is within a five-hour drive of more than 20 national parks and monuments in Utah, Arizona, and Nevada, so there is plenty of opportunity to explore the world at the University of the Parks . Plus, our hometown of Cedar City, Utah hosts events like the Tony-award winning Utah Shakespeare Festival, the Utah Summer Games, music festivals, and downtown block parties.

The SUU Legal Office serves as in-house counsel for SUU. The law clerk position is for a 1L or 2L and will provide hands-on experience in higher education law, which includes numerous legal areas from first amendment to employment law to student conduct to contracts. The law clerk will have the opportunity to take initiative and create work product where they will get to see the business and strategic impacts on legal issues.

The law clerk position will be from early to mid-May to mid-July, full-time, paid position. This is the perfect time of year to explore Cedar City and the surrounding beauty!

Required Qualifications

  • Enrolled at an ABA accredited law school;

  • Completed first or second year of law school prior to the start of the internship;

  • Student must intend to return to complete law school after the internship;

  • Demonstrated ability to perform complex legal research and analysis; and

  • Strong academic credentials and writing skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Westlaw;

  • Interest in higher education law, constitutional law, employment law, and/or policy review;

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment; and

  • Able to commit to required hours per week for the entire length of the internship.
